This Buddhist monastery is located on a hilltop in the sub-valley of Shamuzai, 22 km from Brikot and 45 km west of Saidusharif,

on the right bank of the Swat River. Apart from the three main stupas, there are 56 other stupas in this monastery.

Due to the discovery of Kushan period coins from here, it was estimated that this monastery belongs to the second to the third period

It is from the century AD.

For this one has to go to Navagai village which is 3 km away from the main road. 60 feet high and 102 feet in circumference,
this stupa is an excellent example of the grandeur of the Kushan civilization.

Before his death, Buddha instructed his followers that after his death, King Atris of Swat should be given his ashes and a share of his blessings. After the death of the Buddha,
Raja Uttara took his share and placed it on a white decorated elephant and left for Swat. When the white elephant approached Galige in Swat, the elephant fell down and died.
Raja Uttaran was built in the same place on the sto. Where the elephant died. That stupa is still in excellent condition with a burlap strick at the Fingerdar place

Overview of Saidu Sharif

Saidu Sharif Stupa
Located in Saidu Sharif Colony, these archaeological ruins belong to the 1st to 5th century BC.
Apart from the main stupa.
The sacred Buddhist area of Saidu stupa is dated back from the 1″ to the 5th century A.D.
It is composed of two main areas erected on vast terraces at different levels. The lower
terrace is dominated by the main stupa with a flight of steps on the northern side.
It is surrounded by minor monuments like votive stupas and viharas. The upper terrace
is a Monastery, rectangular in plan with an open courtyard surrounded by monastic cells.
The site was excavated by the ItalianArchaeological Mission with the collaboration of the
Department of Archaeology & Museums Government of Pakistan from 1963 onwards and conserved
later during the ACT Project with the support of the Directorate of Archaeology .
