Fairy Meadows

From Raikot Bridge, 61 km from Chilas, a track leads right to the idol on Nanga, the ninth highest peak in the world and the second highest in Pakistan. This 8125 meter high peak is also known as Color Mountain. It is extremely difficult to top. Dia Meer, Roopal and Raikot bring out the best in her face which is different in appearance, texture and shape from every angle. Camp Ferry Meadows is the ultimate dream destination for aspiring mountaineers on Nanga. Due to the beauty of this trek to Ferry Meadows and the beautiful scenery on the way, in 1953 Austrian mountaineer Hermann Bahl named it “Ferry Meadows”. This green area leading up to the Nanga Parbat base camp offers excellent camping opportunities for tourists. There are pockets near the Shangri-La Hotel next to Raikot Bridge. Half way from Raikot Bridge by jeep is an adventure-filled journey of eight kilometers and half an hour. The jeep will take you to Phori and Tu village. After a three-hour trek from here, you can reach this dreamy valley.Hotels, tents for accommodation in this beautiful region covered with mountains, snow-capped peaks. Panj, food and drink facilities are also available. Apart from horse riding, one can go fishing at the nearby lake. There are also the best greens for cricket, qabal, polo matches. Ferry Meadows Site Camp is located at an altitude of 3306 meters. At night, domestic and foreign tourists who have come to Ferry Meadows wander around and return to the site camp, then a campfire is held. And all the tourists sit around the bonfire and sing the local songs of their region, so at that time there is no race and color and only one tourist. The route is open from May to August, after which it becomes difficult to reach due to snowfall. Two hours away from the site camp is Bial Camp which is the campsite. There is also a restaurant here. At a further two hours’ drive, at an altitude of 4500 meters above sea level, there is our camp at Nanga Parbat. According to famous travel writer Mustansar Hussain Tarar, fairies land here. Seeing the greenery of the ferry meadows, one remembers powerless Kashmir. Now we come back to Raikot and proceed towards Gilgit.
